On entering a memorial building in a park in Melbourne Australia. The sight of row upon row of glass topped cabinets each full of medals gave me goosebumps. Reading the stories behind the medals and the numbers of young men who gave their lives I could do nothing less than in some small way acknowledge their sacrifice made in the pursuit of freedom for countries half a world away from their homelands.

ANZAC MEMORIAL

Row upon row of shining medals
honours on display
Showing other nations you fought
too and not just they
We often forget your countries
suffered just like we
The truth within these walls show
how you helped set Europe free
You've always given us your aid
even to the present day
You've never said "it's not our problem
we live half a world away"
We've taken your support for granted
over many years
Now I offer you this thank you
for always being there.
