I was sitting in a service station having a coffee on my way down South to see my friend Diana who was in a Hospice.
She was the person to encourage and told me I should publish them. Hence my first booklet of poems came into being. Beverley
DIANA MY FRIEND
The heavens wept for me that day
almost as if they knew
The reason for my journey was
to spend some time with you
Although in our lives perhaps we
met just a little late
And an empty seat upon a bus
was what sealed our fate
You made me see that I could do
more than I ever thought
It was the gift you gave me and
the lesson that you taught
Now I know this Diana that
no matter where or when
You will always be beside me
when I pick up my pen
You were a true and loving friend
thought death caused us to part
There will always be a place for you
deep within my heart.

TRUE FRIENDSHIP
To be a friend is to have a friend
a wise woman once said to me
And so I've tried to live my life
following this philosophy
Acquaintances may come and go
as one travels along life's way
But I know now what true friendship is
and also that it will stay
As a treasured and meaningful part
of my life as I grow older
When I hear you say "oh that's my friend"
I could not feel prouder
Therefore if ever in the future
you feel down or all alone
Just remember I am always there
at the end of the telephone.
