On long cruises having a launderette on board ship was a Godsend. It meant you could wash your flimsies and iron your finery, thus reducing your luggage. You soon learnt it was here that you got to know all the latest ship's gossip. Which could be both amusing and informative.

GOSSIP CENTRE

If you want to hear the gossip
going around the ship
Just gather up your washing
and make a little trip
Down to the launderette
and in moments you will hear
All the latest gossip
and what is going on my dear
Like the lady on deck C who's
been seen flirting with the crew
Now really my dear that's
just not the thing to do
Naturally I do not repeat
all the things I hear
I just pass them on to you
out of interest, my dear
But all the tales and tittle-tattle
help pass away the time
As I wait for my washing
or to use the iron
Yes my dear it's really true and
it's becoming quite the rage
I sometimes take a book with me
and never get to turn a page.
