HIGH SCHOOL CHAPERONE
Midnight has long come and gone
but my duties force me to stay
I remember as I watch them
those elegant bygone days

When girls were ladies in dresses
that swayed gently to and fro
Their beaus standing tall and erect
like starched penguins in a row

Those arms so politely offered
had white gloved hands laid upon
Shy lowered eyes that even I
could see mischief peeking from

It all looked very formal
this invitation to the dance
But deep down inside their hearts beat
wild for this could be the chance

To meet the one they are longing for
to make their life complete
I watch nothing's changed just the clothes
and the music's rhythmic beat
