NEW FRIENDS

Strangers can touch your life for a moment
then pass along their way
Whilst others stay with you longer
maybe a month a week or a day
Perhaps you thought you were only
like ships passing by in the night
And you'd probably never meet again
well that could be all right

But all meetings leave you with something
albeit only a smile
One day something triggers a memory
you stop and think a while
Maybe ask yourself the question
why there's now no contact at all
But did you write that promised letter
or make that telephone call

Sadly this happens often with
new people passing by our way
We intend to call but then put it off
until another day
By treating new contacts lightly
or dismissing them with disdain
We will never know how many friends
we have lost instead of gained

Therefore I'm making myself a promise
when I meet somebody new
If I say I'll call the next day
that's exactly what I will do
I am taking no more chances
or missing opportunities
Of making friends who could end
as dear as my old ones are to me.
Eternal Friendship
Heartache will follow on from
all great losses this is true However,
your memories will always be there for you
You'll have them to recall things you shared
the fun joy and laughter
And they will surely comfort you during
the lonely years after
As thy help to ease your pain which in
time will slowly fade away
But you will never forget the friendship
you lost on that day
But there will come a time when you'll
think of her and be able to smile
For a friendship like the one you shared
only happens once in a while.

OUT OF THE COLD

I left the cold of my lonely world and
stepped into the warmth of yours
Never once did I consider that one
day I would be spending hours
Dreaming of a warm and happy
future with you sitting by my side
Simply because on a wet and cold night
I stopped and gave you a ride.
