NEW YEAR IN MADEIRA

 

I never saw such a wonder 
as I did on the day

I stopped over in Madeira 
to watch the firework display

Starburst after starburst 
lit up the velvet night skies,

A sight that stays with me for ever

I need only close my eyes

And again, I'll be able to picture 
the magnificent sight I saw

As I and two thousand people 
gazed up to the heavens in awe

 

And above the music and singing 
and the endless squeals of delight

I knew I'd never see anything more splendid 
than Madeira at midnight.
