What I felt and saw in my mind's eye when I sailed towards the city of Oslo.

Much to the amusement of some of my fellow passengers I leaned against the harbour wall and jotted down notes which later became this poem.

V1SIONS OF NORWAY
Did my ancestors live in this land for I feel it's mysteries
The secrets that lay hidden beneath it's deep cold seas
Memories from the past call out loud and clear to me
They come from the darker side of it's history
My minds eye sees the long ships sunk beneath the waters deep
Bones of men who fought with valour who now in watery graves sleep
With their only disturbance for a thousand years or more
Have been the mouths of hungry fishes seeking food to nibble and gnaw
And only when their skeletons lay completely stripped and bare
Did the fish and sea creatures leave them in peace down there
Do you think perhaps the ghosts of those fierce fighting men
Hold gatherings to relive those times from long ago, when
They ruled the waves striking fear into the hearts of foes
Well if the history books are right that's how the story goes
They created havoc fear and mayhem everywhere they went
Mixing their fierce and fighting blood where 'ere their lusts were spent
I feel all these things within me sailing over these waters cold and deep
Or when I stand by harbour walls where once widows and children weeped
I can in truth not tell you what draws me to this beautiful land
I only know I must return here as often as I can.
